Choice Morsels-Principles of Living

Sermon Presentation Date: November 27/2010

Speaker: Pastor Aaron
Sikhosana

Key Points:

Lack of Contentment: According to a recent study, on average people spend 20 minutes out of every hour cultivating discontentment

Contentment as defined by the speaker: Being happy where you are in whatever stage of life you are in.

Contentment is not a lack of Ambition, rather the voice of contentment says, "I'm blessed to be where God has placed me in this particular stage in life."

Attributes of Wisdom in regards to material things:

-Buy things for their usefulness rather than the status that comes with having the item

-Be aware of anything that creates an addition in me
  • For example: Social Networking: Facebook, Twitter, Texting, Blogging, New Gadgets
-Resist marketing strategies aimed at making me feel that I must have an item to achieve happiness

-Never chase after the wind: Things that you really don't need

-Learn to enjoy things without owning them: (Renting items such as movies, and even purses in my case rather than spending an insane amount of money that could be better spent or saved)

Attributes that will help you overcome a material addiction to things

-Honesty: An honest answer is like a
KISS on the LIPS... An instant intimacy is built!

-Lying creates distance by default

*When you feel that someone is lying to you, throw them off by saying why don't you KISS me on the Lips... That will create the shock factor then say: Honesty is like a Kiss on the Lips so why don't you think before you continue speaking

Proverbs 25:15 Patience

Luke 18 A gentle tongue persuades

The waiting time is the biggest test of faith!

Realize that the the time it takes to pray and seek God is what is needed to create character.

The ultimate goal of God isn't to make our lives easy hear on earth but rather to save our souls by whatever means necessary.

Learn the principle of delayed gratification: The I got to have it NOW is what gets many of us in trouble!

Realize that the best option be it in regards to things or relationships often takes time to develop or cultivate. The more precious the item is the more it cost in many cases likewise in terms of life and love or friendships it is good to understand that friendship isn't cultivated instantly. Rather, relationship are achieved over time by showing respect, tolerance, and patience.

*While going through the process needed to cultivate character, the Devil will say things to discourage us along our life journeys.

Humility is recognizing that whatever God has given us as talents, gifts or abilities is given to us only by God.

Read Matthew 6:25-33 for encouragement!

Do not worry God has your back!
