Sermon Notes from New Life Church Service 10/30/10

Title: When God comes Down

Main Text: Genesis 11:1 Begins the story of the tower of Babel

Key Points:

-In the bible the illustration is given time and again when God's people separated from Him they traveled in the direction of East. For example when Adam and Eve were kicked out the garden of Eden they went east, when Lot separated he traveled east, when Cain wondered the earth after killing Able he traveled east. So its safe to say that for the sake of analogy when we as Christians separate ourselves from God we are figuratively traveling east or away from God.

-Sodom-Represents a sinful city a place where we as Christians run when we are trying to escape from the presence of God.

In biblical times walls and towers were constructed for one purpose which was defense. At the time of the building of the tower of Babel the inhabitants of the earth all spoke one language and were of one race human kind. So it was after the flood destroyed the earth that many of the people on earth were afraid of God. They felt that never again would they live in fear of God.
Then the speaker asked us to think of what defense walls or towers are in our lives because we've built them to keep God out.
Proverbs 18:10- We all are in need of security and and protection
We need to understand that in God we can find all the safety and protection that we need.
Ask yourself what are you willing to do for a name or for a title or identity?
Isiah 66:22- Your name will last forever
When God comes down to inspect us what will God see in our hearts?
Love is hard for us to truly express because we are selfish.
When God comes down He will save those who accept His Gift of Salvation.
Don't let God have to confuse your life to bring about separation in order to save you.
I pray that you were blessed by the above words or inspiration.
